Grabbing a taste of Indy: Lunch at "Acapulco Joe's" and strolling around The Circle / Saboreando Indy: Almuerzo en "Acapulco Joe's" y paseando por The Circle.

Acapulco Joe's is filled with history. Joe Rangel, its founder had the courage to achieve the American dream. After unsuccessfully crossing the Rio Grande seven times and ultimately landing in a U.S. prison, Rangel "mistakenly" found himself in Indianapolis, where he founded what remains one of Indy's most popular dining establishments. Joe passed away in 1989, but "Acapulco Joe’s" lives on. To this day, a recording of Kate Smith singing “God Bless America” is played religiously every day at noon. The song expresses the feelings in the heart of this humble man who dearly loved his adopted country.

Acapulco Joe's está lleno de historia. Joe Rangel, su fundador, tuvo el corage de lograr el sueño americano. Luego de cruzar 7 veces sin éxito el Río Grande, terminó en su último intento en una prisión para luego arribar "erroneamente" a Indianápolis, donde fundó lo que hoy representa uno de los establecimientos de comida más populares de la ciudad. Joe falleció en 1989, pero "Acapulco Joe's" prevalece. Hasta la fecha, una grabación de Kate Smith cantando "God Bless America" se reproduce religiosamente cada día al mediodía. La canción expresa los sentimientos en el corazón de este hombre humilde que amó a su país adoptivo.

Taking the obligatory photo at "The Circle": the Indiana State Soldiers and Sailors Monument is a 284 feet (87 meters) neoclassical construction built on Monument Circle, a circular, brick-paved street that intersects Meridian and Market streets in the center of downtown Indianapolis. The monument is the first in the United States to be dedicated to the common soldier. It is also the largest outdoor memorial and the largest of its kind in Indiana. It was designed by German architect Bruno Schmitz and built over a thirteen-year period, between 1888 and 1901. 

Tomando la foto "obligatoria" en "The Circle": el monumento de los soldados y marineros del estado es una construcción neoclásica de 87 metros (284 pies) erigida en Monument Circle, una calle circular pavimentada en ladrillos que intersecciona las calles Meridian y Market en el centro de Indianápolis. Dicho monumento es el primero en los Estados Unidos que homenajea al soldado común. También es el memorial más grande y más impresionante de su clase en Indiana. Fue diseñado por el arquitecto alemán Bruno Schmitz en un período de trece años, entre 1888 y 1901.

Open since December 2007, the Learning Curve is a high tech and hands-on information environment designed for today’s children. Located at the Central Library in Indianapolis, it is regarded as one of its greatest features. This section is a nearly an entire floor dedicated to children’s literature. It has inviting reading spaces and engaging activities scattered throughout. There are reading pods that allow children to watch a story being read aloud, a green screen and stage for acting out scenes, a baby area with toys,  and a number of computers with age appropriate games. During our visit students from Scuola and Park Tudor were taught to manipulate and control Lego NXT Robots Lego EV3 Robots, Lego WeDo Kits and Spheros.

Abierto desde Diciembre de 2007, el Learning Curve ("Curva del aprendizaje") es un ambiente de alta tecnología y práctica interactiva diseñada para los niños de hoy. Localizado en la Biblioteca Central de Indianápolis,  es considerado como uno de sus sitios más relevantes. Esta sección comprende casi todo un piso dedicado a la literatura infantil. Posee espacios de lecturas atractivos y actividades motivadoras a lo largo y ancho de la misma. Existen cápsulas de lectura que permiten a los chicos ver una historia mientras se la lee en voz alta, una pared verde para actuar en escenas, un área para bebés con juguetes y un gran número de computadoras con juegos acordes a la edad de cada grupo. Durante nuestra visita, a los estudiantes de la Scuola italiana y Park Tudor se les enseñó a manipular y controlar robots Lego NXT, EV3 Lego WeDo Kits y Spheros.

Dwelling in the past: a fieldtrip to Conners Prairie / Habitando en el pasado: una excursión a Conners Prairie.

Conner Prairie is an interactive History Park, or living history museum, in Fishers, Indiana, that preserves the William Conner home, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and recreates part of life in Indiana in the 19th century on the White River. The museum grounds are divided into several sections, where different eras in history are enacted to create a kind of living timeline. Staff in period costumes demonstrate the way early inhabitants in the area lived. Throughout our visit they explained to our students their lifestyles in character while performing chores such as cooking, chopping wood, making pottery, and teaching in school.

Conner Prairie es un Parque Histórico interactivo o un Museo de Historia viva en Fishers, Indiana, el cual preserva el hogar de William Conner - enlistado en el Registro nacional de sitios históricos - recreando momentos de la vida del estado de Indiana durante el siglo 19 sobre el Río White. Su terreno está dividido en varios sectores donde episodios diversos del pasado norteamericano son representados para vivenciar una especie de cronología. El personal, vestido en disfraces de la época, nos enseñan cómo vivían los primeros habitantes. Durante toda nuestra visita les explicaron a nuestros estudiantes sus costumbres mientras actuaban y efectuaban tareas tales como cocinar, cortar leña, cocer cerámica y enseñar en la escuela.  

The museum's main building, called the Museum Center, contains the entrance lobby, ticket sales counter, banquet hall, and gift shop. The latter often sells pottery made by the museum's costumed staff as well as more conventional souvenirs.

El edificio principal del museo, denominado Museum Center contiene el lobby de acceso, el mostrador de venta de tickets, el Hall de banquetes y la tienda de regalos. Esta última suele vender porcelana hecha por los funcionarios en disfraz, además de souvenirs más convencionales.

Touring around Indianapolis Motor Speedway / Paseando por el Autódromo de Indianápolis.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, located in Speedway, Indiana, (an enclave suburb of Indianapolis) is the home of the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400. It is located approximately six miles (10 km) west of Downtown Indianapolis. Constructed in 1909, it is the first racing facility. It has a permanent seating capacity estimated at 257,325, with infield seating raising capacity to an approximate 400,000. "The Brickyard" as it is popularly known, is also the highest-capacity sports venue in the world. A bus took our students on a lap of the speedway where they used their cellphones to take pictures as they listened about its history. Once they returned at the entrance, they purchased some souvenirs and other race related merchandise.

El Autódromo Indianapolis Motor Speedway, localizado en Indiana (un suburbio enclave de la ciudad) es el hogar de las 500 millas de Indianápolis y del Brickyard 400. Está localizada a 10 km (aproximadamente 6 millas) al oeste del centro. Construída en 1909, es la primera pista de carreras del mundo. Cuenta con una capacidad permanente de 257,325 asientos, junto con cerca de 400,000 plazas en el área interna. El "Brickyard", como se lo conoce popularmente, es el lugar con mayor capacidad de espectadores para este deporte en el planeta. Un ómnibus llevó a nuestros estudiantes a dar una vuelta sobre la propia pista donde usaron sus celulares para tomar fotos mientras escuchaban acerca de su historia. Una vez que retornaron a la entrada, adquirieron souvenirs y otras mercaderías relacionadas con el "Brickyard".

Welcome assembly at Park Tudor's Lower school / Asamblea de bienvenida en el sector Primaria de Park Tudor.

 On Wednesday 16th at 10:00 a.m. students and teachers from Scuola met with authorities and peers at Park Tudor's lower school library. National anthems were played as Park Tudor students waved flags of Uruguay and the USA. Eventually, our students sang a song in Italian and a videoclip on Uruguay was shown by teacher Claudia Nole. An important theme at Park Tudor is “Connecting classroom, campus and community,” and for 19 consecutive years our schools have enjoyed the opportunity to connect with families and faculty from both countries to reinforce cultural and friendship bonds.

El miércoles 16, a las 10:00 a.m., los estudiantes y profesores de la Scuola se encontraron con las autoridades y compañeros en la biblioteca de Primaria de Park Tudor. Se cantaron los himnos nacionales de ambos países mientras los alumnos norteamericanos ondeaban banderas de Uruguay y los Estados Unidos. Posteriormente, nuestros alumnos cantaron una canción en italiano y un corto musical sobre Uruguay fue exhibido por la Profesora Claudia Nole. Una temática importante en Park Tudor es "Conectar la clase, el campus y la comunidad" y por 19 años consecutivos, nuestros colegios han disfrutado la oportunidad de acercar a las familias y docentes de ambos países para reforzar lazos culturales y amistosos.

Visit to Eagle Creek Park / Visita al Parque Eagle Creek

Eagle Creek Park is the largest park in Indianapolis, and one of the largest municipal parks in the United States. It is located at 7840 W. 56th Street and covers approximately 1,400 acres (5.7 km2) of water and 3,900 acres (16 km2) of land. There are about 10 miles (16 km) of paths within it. Eagle Creek Park serves primarily as a nature reserve. Before coming into the possession of Indianapolis, the land was owned by Purdue University, and by Josiah K. Lilly Jr. before that. The Eagle Creek Park Foundation serves to promote volunteerism and provide funding for the Park and its programs.

El Parque Eagle Creek es el más grande en Indianápolis y uno de los más extensos parques municipales de los Estados Unidos. Localizado en la calle 7840 W. 56th y cubre alrededor de 5,7 km2 (1,400 acres) de agua y 16 km2 (3,900 acres) de tierra. Existen cerca de 16 km (10 millas) de caminos dentro del mismo. Este parque sirve primariamente como una reserva natural. Antes de destinarse como patrimonio de Indianápolis, éste fue propiedad de la Universidad Purdue y anterior a ella, a Josiah K. Lilly Jr. La Fundación Eagle Creek Park cumple la función en la promoción de voluntariado y provee fondos tanto para el parque  como para sus programas.

Entering the Eagle Creek Park Ornithology Center. Located on the west side of Eagle Creek Parkway, the building sits atop a hill overlooking the Bird Sanctuary, a large area of retained water separated from the reservoir by Coffer Dam. The windows at the back of the Ornithology Center, and the wooden deck immediately to the south of it, both offer breathtaking views of the Bird Sanctuary.

Localizada en el lado oeste a la senda del parque, se halla esta casa en la cima de una colina que mira al Santuario de aves; una gran área de agua separada por la represa Coffer. Las ventanas en la parte trasera de este centro y el deck orientado al sur ofrecen vistas espléndidas del santuario. 

Inside the Ornithology Center, an air-conditioned viewing room looks out onto a hummingbird garden and feeder area. The building contains dioramas depicting typical bird habitat with taxidermy specimens of different species of birds. There are interactive displays to teach children and adults about the various aspects of bird life. Through this park volunteer our students were able to learn about the indigenous birds of prey that dwell in the forests of Indiana.

Dentro del Centro ornitológico, una habitación con aire acondicionado mira hacia un jardín para colibríes y un área de alimentación. El edificio contiene dioramas mostrando los típicos hábitats de las aves junto con espécimes embalsamados. Se ofrecen además, muestras interactivas para enseñar a adultos y niños acerca de los diversos aspectos de la vida aviar. A través de esta voluntaria del parque, nuestros alumnos pudieron aprender sobre las aves de rapiña indígenas que viven en los bosques de Indiana.
